"The Horror!, The Horror!" Final words of Colonel Walter E. Kurtz (Marlan Brando) in the movie Apocalypse Now (1979). The horrors committed here in Old Goa, in the name of the Church, in these churches, by Christian fathers of this Church, are even more repulsive than those committed by Kurtz. Unlike the Vietnam War that continued from 1945 til 1975, a mere 30 years, and the Maoist Cultural Revolution which lasted only 10 years, the Portuguese Inquisition in Goa continued for 250 years!!! The Se Cahedral built by the Dominicans at the time of the Ming Dynasty in China, was one of the main venues for Inquisition pagents. It was the bell in this cathedral that rang at 5am in the mornings to summon the people of Old Goa to come and enjoy the burning at the stake of Inquisition victims. Construction on this cathedral commenced in 1562, )during the Ming Dynasty in China), but was not completed until 1652. It was built for the Dominicans.
