Built on the site of the home of Matteo Ricci, the extraordinary Jesuit missionary who introduced Christianity to China and hobnobed with the Ming Emperor and the leading intellectuals of the day in Beijing. First built in1703, destroyed three times including being trashed by the Boxer Rebellion in 1900 and the Cultural Revolution 1965-1975.
