Lying in the Ma'an Mountains, part of the Western Hills chain, 35km west of Beijing City center its original name was 慧聚寺 Huijusi. In the 11th century Master 法均 Fajun built an ordination platform here. From that time on monks came here in great numbers and it became known as Jietai, Ordination Terrace Temple. it is also famous for its towering contorted pine trees.
