Shanghai's old Daoist temple founded in the Yuan Dynasty. This structure was built in 1882 at 100 西林後路 Xilinhou Rd. , having received 8,000 scrolls from the Baiyunguan Temple in Beijing. Few of its magnificent paintings and sculptures survived the Cultural Revolution—only seven bronze Taoist gods remain. Now in March, 2006, it is shuttered and empty, awaiting the bulldozers of urban renewal.
A new Baiyunan has been built nearby on Dajinglu, east side of Renminlu, next to the Dajingge. It is the Shanghai headquarters of the Taoist Association.
