Comander of New Forth Army for a time headquartered in caves on the Daoist mountan Maoshan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, member of CCP Politburo, Mayor of Shanghai. Persecuted and left to die in a hospital in Shanghai during the Cultural Revolution. During the Japanese invasion of China in the 1930's the japanese bombed the temples on Maoshan and eventually overran the mountain. As a result most of the old temple sites are just piles of fractured stone. Today (December, 2001) on Maoshan there is still one old Daoist who remembers this time. He says he escaped the the local village when the marauding Japanese arrived.
