Hong Ren, the Fifth Patriarch of Chan Buddhism, practised at the Dongshansi, now called the Wuzusi on Dongshan in Huangmei county, Hubei. The Wuzusi is shown here wrapped in mist. 弘忍(602一675年)，俗姓周，湖北黄梅人。永徽三年(651年)道信付法传衣给他。道信圆寂后，他继承法席，后世称他为禅宗第五祖。由于来学禅的人日益增多，唐永徽五年(654年)，弘忍到双峰山东面的冯茂山建立东山寺，因五祖弘忍所创，又称五祖寺。
