The Girl of Ba Speaks
Li Bai 701-762

The water of the River Ba is swift like an arrow;
The boat on the River Ba slips away
As if it had wings.
It will travel in ten days three thousand li.
And you are going, my dear--
Ah, how many years before you return?

Bā Nǚ Cí
Lǐ Bái 701-762

Bā shuǐ jí rú jiàn,
Bā chuán qù ruò fēi.
Shí yuè sān qiān lǐ,
Láng xíng jǐ suì guī?

Translator: Shigeyoshi Obata 小畑薰良

Notes:
Ba is the eastern region of Sichuan, traversed by the swift flowing Yangtze.
