On Yellow Crane Tower Hearing a Flute
Li Bai 701-762

Suddenly an exile on the way to Changsha
Looking back toward Chang'an I don't see a soul
From Yellow Crane Tower I hear a jade flute
Plum blossoms fall in this city in June

Huánghèlóu Wén Dí
Lǐ Bái 701-762

Yī wéi qiānkè qù Chángshā,
Xī wàng Cháng'ān bú jiàn jiā.
Huánghèlóu zhōng wén yù dí,
Jiāngchéng wǔyuè luò méihuā.

Translator: Red Pine-Bill Porter 赤松

Notes:
From the book Poems of the Masters, China's Classic Anthology of Tang and Song Dynasty verse. One of the best, if not "the best", books of general translations of Chinese poetry. Wonderfully detailed notes on each poem and all poems are displayed in the original Chinese.

Translated by Red Pine, published by Copper Canyon Press.
