Miscellaneous Poem at Qinzhou,XIX
Du Fu 712-770

The fighting goes on in Fenglin
The road to Yuhai is still blocked
Signal fires fill the sky with smoke
Troops in the fields find only dry wells
The wind shakes even the Western Stars
The moon turns cold above the Norther Court
An old man recalls the Flying Genaral
When will they build him an altar

Qínzhōu Zá Shī Zhī Shíjiǔ
Dù Fǔ 712-770

Fèng lín gē wèi xī,
Yú hǎi lù cháng nán.
Hòu huǒ yún fēng jùn,
Xuán jūn mù jǐng gān.
Fēng lián xī jí dòng,
Yuè guò běi tíng hán.
Gù lǎo sī Fēijiàng,
Héshí yì zhù tán.

Translator: Red Pine-Bill Porter 赤松

Notes:
From the book Poems of the Masters, China's Classic Anthology of Tang and Song Dynasty verse. One of the best, if not "the best", books of general translations of Chinese poetry. Wonderfully detailed notes on each poem and all poems are displayed in the original Chinese.

Translated by Red Pine, published by Copper Canyon Press.
