Jade Terrace Temple
Du Fu 712-770

The palatial steps were built by a king
The terrace resembles those of the past
Colored clouds welcome Xiao Shi
Inscriptions record the words of Lu Gong
The shrine halls lead to the realm of the gods
The whole place recalls an immortal isle
People report hearing flutes and cranes
Often passing the peak to the north

Yùtái Guàn
Dù Fǔ 712-770

Hàojié yīn wáng zào,
Píngtái fǎng gǔ yóu.
Cǎi yún Xiāo Shǐ zhù,
Wén zì Lǔ Gōng liú.
Gōngquè tōng qún dì,
Qiánkūn dào shí zhōu.
Rén chuán yǒu shēng hè,
Shí guò běi shān tóu.

Translator: Red Pine-Bill Porter 赤松

Notes:
From the book Poems of the Masters, China's Classic Anthology of Tang and Song Dynasty verse. One of the best, if not "the best", books of general translations of Chinese poetry. Wonderfully detailed notes on each poem and all poems are displayed in the original Chinese.

Translated by Red Pine, published by Copper Canyon Press.
