On the Way to Yuqian

Yuan Hongdao 1568-1610 I left home two, three months ago... the traveler's life is one long climb! Ask me....I don't know myself         why I am running around. the southern birds make fun of me;         they say: "Old mam go back!" And why shouldn't this old man go back? All these mountains are making me sick. Every hundred li another famous mountain         that takes ten days to see. The southeast is a land of cliffs And I haven't covered one-tenth of it. Each morning,          clouds touch my eyebrows; every night,          mountaindeamons enter my room. I meet people,          ask about techniques of medetation or the art of levitation,          if they are immortals. Every bone in my body aches but in many ways my spirit is free. You can come to the end of the world's famous sights but the wanderer's inspiration is hard to subdue. Poet's note: The Southerners call the cuckoo "Old-Man-Go-Back."

YūQián Dào Zhōnɡ ǒu Chénɡ

Yuán Hóngdào 1568-1610 Chūmén èrsān yuè, Kè xíng chánɡ yú zhì. Wèn wǒ yì bùzhī, Bēn bō wèi héwù. Yuèniǎo yě cháo rén, Jiě wèn diē ɡuī fú. Diē qǐ bù sīɡuī, Shān yín chénɡ ɡùjí. Bǎi lǐ yì mínɡ shān, Yì shān xū shí rì. Dōnɡ nán bàn bì dì, Shí fēn wèi le yī. Yúnxiá cháo dào méi, Xiāo ɡuǐ yè rù shì. Yù bàn mì dìnɡ fānɡ, Fénɡ xiān tán fēi shù. Xínɡ tǐ jiējiē láo, Xīn shén bānbān yì. Mínɡ shènɡ shànɡ kě qiónɡ, Yóuzǐ xìnɡ nán bì.
