Exiting From Ghost Gate Pass
(In Awe Of Heaven Pass)
Zhou Can
The caps, robes and institutional trapping
are especially revered in the south,
So why does this pass
have such an inauspicious name?
Let us call it "In Awe of Heaven"
to remember this principle,
So that for myraid years
it can hold sway over the torrid wilds.

Notes: When Zhou Can crossed Ghost Gate Pass on his return trip he decided to change this inauspicious moniker. He then composed this poem to mark the occasion, Exiting from Ghost Gate Pass (At that time I changed its name to ‘In Awe of Heaven Pass).
