After entering China at the Zhennanguan, Vietnamese envoys to the Chinese courts traveled overland to Ningming Citadel where they began their long water journey on the Ming River, the first of many rivers they would travel on.
Today Ningming still sits beside the Ming River but the river has ceased being the main transportation route for travelers in Guangxi. However, one can board a diesel powered boat and clank down the Ming to view the 2,000 year old cliff paintings at the 花山岩壁畫 Huashan Yanbihua.
