This Radiating Virtue Terrace, also called 南仰德臺 Nanyangdetai, was formerly on the north side of the Zhennanguan, Pressing Down South Pass, on the border between China and Vietnam. It no longer exists but was probably near where this misplaced French relic stands today. On the south, Vietnamese side of the border was a twin terrace called 仰德臺 Yángdétái, Revering Virtue Terrace. From these names it is clear who thought they were in control here!
