Home of the great novelist and playwrite Lao She, 1899-1966. A native of Beijing, Lao She went to America in 1945 but returned to China in 1949 and bought this home. He spent the last years of his life here. Laoshe was tormented and brutalized during the cultural revolution. On the last night of his life, together with other artists he was dressed in Peiking opera clothes and forced to kneel before a fire in the Confucian Temple...and then beaten. His body was found the next day on the shore of Taiping Lake. Some say suicide, some murder.

Photo is of a photo, displayed in his home, of the spot by Taiping Lake where his body was found.
