This pagoda was built in 1959 to house the tooth of the Buddha, that was discovered by monks in the ruins of the nearby Zhaoxianta. The Zhaoxianta was destroyed in 1900 by troops of the eight imperial powers. (There must be an interesting story here. Why was this pagoda built in 1959?)
