The Lancang, Mekong River, is the longest river flowing from north to south in China. Its source is Guangguori Peak of Tanggula Mountain Range in Qinghai Province. It flows from through Yunnan Province into Vietnam where it becomes the Mekong River, finally emptying into the South China Sea south of Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City in the Mekong Delta. The longest river in the Southeast Asia, it has a total length of 2,354 kilometers and a drainage basin area of 165,000 square kilometers. Now that's appreciably larger than your kitchen sink! This shot of the Lancang was taken on the west bank of the rivertoward the end of a long 10 hour hike down the spectacular Yubeng River Gorge to the point where the Yubeng River empties into the Lancong, and then north to the small hamlet of Xi.....
