The Huanghe here is flat and peaceful now that the three gorges, known as 人門 Man's Gate, 鬼門 Devil's Gate and 神門 God's Gate, have been tamed by the 三門峽大壩 Sanmenxia Daba, the first dam on the Yellow River built in 1960.
