Xinzheng, Henan, south of Zhengzhou, is the reputed home town of 黃帝 Huangdi, the legendary Yellow Emperor. A small provincial town surrounded by green farms growing wheat, corn, dates and peanuts. Today peanuts are being harvested, the corn not quite ripe, and three weeks to go before the ripe dates are whacked down with bamboo poles from the date trees. Here in Henan dates are not picked, but instead are knocked from the trees with bamboo poles.
In the center of town stands a statue of the Yellow Emperor himself, a testament to the longevity of Chinese civilization.
